Come Ready to Move!
Hip-Hop is an energetic dance style rooted in street-dance culture, with a strong emphasis on rhythm, musicality, individuality, and self-expression. Dancers build power, coordination, confidence, and memory while exploring the movement, history, and cultural foundations of Hip-Hop.
- Power, strength, coordination, and musicality
- Memory, focus, and learning choreography
- The culture, elements, and history of Hip-Hop
- R&B choreography and commercial-style movement
- Tutting, Popping, Locking, House, and basic Breaking
- Basic tumbling and floor work
- Age-appropriate movement and music
Dress Code:
Hip-Hop clothing should be comfortable, expressive, and allow dancers to move freely. Loose-fitting clothing is encouraged and reflects the style and movement of the genre.
Because Hip-Hop choreography often includes demanding floor work, dancers are encouraged to wear baggy pants, and t-shirts or long-sleeve tops to cover shoulders and back.
These layers are intentional and serve as protection for the body. Bare skin can become easily scraped, bruised, or irritated during repeated floor work.
Girls & Boys
- Clean-soled sneakers reserved for indoor studio use
- Loose-fitting pants or sweatpants that cover the knees
- T-shirts and comfortable tops layered for floor work
- Hats are welcome
- No jeans
- Hair secured away from the face
- No clothing with zippers, hard embellishments, or other elements that may interfere with floor work
- Avoid bra tops and short shorts
Dancers are encouraged to have fun with their personal style while choosing clothing that is appropriate for class and allows them to move safely.
Find Your Style
Hip-Hop is about rhythm, individuality, confidence, and connection. Dancers learn the vocabulary and foundations of the style while developing their own way of moving.
Come ready to groove. Come ready to learn. Come ready to bring your own style.
